Yoga teacher training in Malta and Gozo

If you want to start teaching, look for a 200-hour course; Malta and Gozo have several, from 12-day intensives to modular courses over months. If you already teach, a 30 to 50-hour module is usually the better fit.

Coming up

Start with one question: do you want to teach general classes, or deepen something you already do? For a first teaching qualification, you want a 200-hour course. For a speciality such as Yin, aerial or meditation, or for continuing education if you already teach, a short module is the right tool. Both are available on these islands, and the dates are in the “Coming up” list above.

Should you choose a 200-hour course or a short module?

200-hour course Short module (30 to 50 hours)
Who it suits Future teachers and committed students Existing teachers, or students who want depth in one style
Time needed About 2 to 3 weeks full-time, or several months part-time 3 to 8 days
What you cover Technique, teaching practice, anatomy, philosophy One subject in detail
Yoga Alliance route Can lead to RYT 200, if the school is registered Usually continuing education hours
Cost Largest outlay, often before accommodation Lower, and easier to fit around work

Short courses currently on offer include Yellow Rock Yoga’s eight-day 50-hour Yin and 50-hour Meditation and Yoga Nidra trainings on Gozo. Yoga Malta lists four-day 40-hour courses in Yin, aerial, and inversions and arm balances, plus a 30-hour meditation and breathwork course and a 50-hour Rocket Vinyasa training. Island Yoga lists trainings in areas such as Aerial Hoop, Mat Pilates, Sound Meditation, Wheel Yoga and Rocket Yoga. The Breathing Space in Sliema has a Sound4Yoga teachers’ training, and Lotus Room has run specialist trainings for teaching kids, teens and pregnancy, though its last dated kids and teens course was in 2025.

Before booking any module, ask whether it requires a 200-hour certificate first, because some are written for working teachers.

Which 200-hour courses run in Malta and Gozo?

School Style Format Where
Yellow Rock Yoga Hatha Flow 23-day intensive Qbajjar, Marsalforn, Gozo
Yoga Malta Ask the school 18-day course, listed for April 2027 Msida
Island Yoga Vinyasa Two weeks full-time, or four weekends Malta, venue not stated
HotYoga Malta with Ashtanga Yogabhyasa Ashtanga Vinyasa Four 50-hour modules, October 2026 to May 2027 Mosta

The HotYoga Malta course is already under way, with applications still shown as open and the later module dates awaiting confirmation, so ask whether you can still join and how missed hours are handled. The same studio lists a separate five-week part-time training in Mosta for November and December 2026. Its page gives no price, so ask what it counts towards.

A few other names come up when you search. PowerYogaWorld lists a 200-hour Power Yoga World training, but its site conflicts on both the studio’s location and whether the course is in Malta or online, so confirm both. For Vinyasa Yoga Malta and Rebirth Yoga & Pilates, we could not confirm a current date, so treat those trainings as unconfirmed.

What does Yoga Alliance registration actually mean?

Yoga Alliance is a private, US-based membership organisation that keeps a registry of yoga schools and teachers. It is not a government body, and its registration is not a licence. In plain terms:

  • RYS (Registered Yoga School) means a school has had its curriculum accepted by Yoga Alliance. An RYS 200 offers a 200-hour programme.
  • RYT 200 (Registered Yoga Teacher) is the listing a graduate can apply for. You complete a 200-hour course with an RYS 200, the school gives you a completion certificate, and you submit it to Yoga Alliance with a fee.
  • E-RYT is a more experienced teacher. Yoga Alliance requires lead trainers on RYS 200 programmes to hold the E-RYT 500 credential.
  • Continuing education hours apply to many short courses. They are not a route to RYT 200 on their own.

Three things catch people out. First, all 200 hours must come from the same school, so you cannot add up separate modules from different providers. Second, the school must be registered, so look it up in Yoga Alliance’s online directory rather than relying on a logo. Third, registering shows that you finished an approved course. It is not a guarantee of teaching quality, so the teachers themselves still matter most.

Requirements change from time to time, so check the current standards on Yoga Alliance’s own site before you enrol. Then ask a couple of studios where you would like to teach what they look for in a new teacher.

Is part-time or intensive better?

An intensive suits you if you can step away from work for a few weeks and want to be fully absorbed. A part-time course suits people who live here and have jobs, because you can practise and teach friends between sessions, and the material has time to settle.

Intensive Part-time or modular
Length 12 to 23 days on current listings Four weekends to several months
Best for Visitors, career breaks Malta residents with jobs or families
Main risk Tiredness and information overload Missed sessions and long gaps
Malta point Accommodation adds to the cost Weekend traffic and parking to Mosta or Sliema

Do the sums on any 200-hour course. Current formats range from 12 days to 23 days to seven months, so the daily load varies a lot. Divide the hours by the days and ask how much is taught in the room, how much is online, and how much is self-study at home.

The season matters too, particularly on Gozo. Yellow Rock Yoga’s 200-hour course runs in January, April and October by the sea at Qbajjar. January brings a greater chance of rain and wind, and April and October are usually gentler. For any course with outdoor practice, ask what happens in bad weather. A July or August intensive means serious heat, so ask about air conditioning and timing.

If your course is on Gozo but you live on Malta, daily travel is rarely practical. The crossing from Ċirkewwa takes about 25 minutes, but the drive to the terminal and the wait can add a lot more. The fast ferry from Valletta takes about 45 minutes and has fewer sailings, so most people stay on the island.

What does teacher training in Malta cost?

Listed 200-hour course prices start from about €1,500 to €3,000, and short modules from about €500 to €900. Those are starting points, often early-bird rates for the first few students or for those who pay in full, so the regular price can be noticeably higher.

Read what the figure covers. Yellow Rock Yoga’s from-price excludes accommodation, lunches and transport, and its packages cost considerably more. Island Yoga’s lowest price is for paying in full. Budget too for books, a mat, any Yoga Alliance fees, and the income you give up during an intensive.

What should you ask before enrolling?

  1. Is the school registered now, and at which level? Check its listing yourself.
  2. Who teaches each part? Ask for lead trainers by name, their credentials and how many hours each one delivers.
  3. How much is contact time? Get a sample timetable, including online and home-study hours.
  4. How much real teaching practice is there? Ask how often you teach and receive feedback.
  5. How big is the group? Ask about the maximum, and the ratio of trainers to students.
  6. What are the entry requirements? Ask how much experience you need, and whether a short conversation or application comes first.
  7. What happens if you miss a day or fall ill? Ask about make-up hours, refunds and transfers to a later date.
  8. How is the certificate awarded? Ask about exams, attendance rules and any extra costs.
  9. Is the course taught in English? Ask too about language support, if you need it.
  10. What is the physical load? Daily practice for weeks is demanding. Tell the school about injuries, health conditions or pregnancy, and check with your doctor if you are unsure.

If you can, take a few ordinary classes with the lead trainer before you pay. You will be spending a lot of hours with this person, and a single class will tell you more than a brochure. See what’s on for the latest dates, and how to choose a style if you are still deciding what you would like to teach.

Common questions

How much is yoga teacher training in Malta?
Listed 200-hour courses in Malta and Gozo start from about €1,500 to €3,000 before accommodation, and early-bird prices are often limited. Short modules of 30 to 50 hours start from about €500 to €900. Check each course page for the current price and what it includes.
Do I need Yoga Alliance registration to teach yoga?
Yoga Alliance is a private registry, not a government licence. Many studios and students look for it, but it is your choice whether to register after a course. Ask the studios where you hope to teach what they expect.
Can a beginner do a 200-hour yoga teacher training?
Many schools accept keen students who are not advanced, but the requirements differ. Ask how much regular practice a school expects before you start. Some time in weekly classes first makes the course far more useful.
Is a 50-hour course enough to become a yoga teacher?
On its own, usually not. Short courses are generally aimed at existing teachers as continuing education, or at students who want depth in one area. To register as an RYT 200 with Yoga Alliance, you need 200 hours from a single registered school.

Choosing the Right Yoga Style

Choose by how you want to feel afterwards: hatha for a steady introduction, vinyasa for movement, yin or restorative for calm, and hot, power or ashtanga for a hard workout. Most people need two or three trial classes to know.
